I am Davida Haygood, a passionate educator, community organizer, and activist running for Pierce County Council Position 2. My mission is to champion the needs of all residents, with a special focus on youth, vulnerable populations, and underrepresented groups. Having lived in the district for over a decade, I deeply understand the hopes and fears of our community, and I am committed to addressing the issues that matter most to the people of Pierce County.
As a single parent who has experienced housing insecurity firsthand, I know the struggles that many families in our district face. My journey from welfare to becoming a professor of education has given me a unique perspective on the challenges and aspirations of our community. I believe that by fostering an authentic community, where everyone's needs are considered and met, we can create a path to community wealth and well-being.

I recognize the urgent need for truly affordable housing in Pierce County. I will work to protect mobile home parks from developer encroachment and ensure that affordable housing initiatives genuinely reflect the needs of our community. By promoting inclusive and sustainable community development, I aim to create a district where everyone has access to safe and stable housing.

As a strong advocate for environmental justice, I will prioritize the protection and rejuvenation of Pierce County's natural resources. I will collaborate with local tribes and community stakeholders to develop and implement conservation strategies that benefit both the environment and the people. By taking care of our environment, we invest in the health and well-being of our community for generations to come.

I am deeply committed to empowering and engaging the youth of Pierce County. Drawing from my extensive experience as an educator and community involvement, I will work to increase access to youth activities, remove financial barriers for participation, and create more civic engagement opportunities. By collaborating with local school districts to establish a Junior Council member program, I aim to inspire and nurture the next generation of leaders.
With my extensive educational background, including a Master's degree in Early Education and Special Education and a BA in Business Management, combined with my experience as a community organizer and my involvement in various boards and teams, I am uniquely qualified to serve on the Pierce County Council. My dedication to removing elitism from government and my commitment to authentic community make me the ideal candidate to represent the diverse needs and aspirations of District 2.
